Karen Wangare Leonard

Karen Wangare Leonard is a Kenyan-American writer, artist, and athlete who exists in perpetual migration. Aside from being the author of the poetry collection Lightning on My Fingertips and a previous collaborator in You Are Holding This: Issue 002, (pub. We Are Holding This,) she is an avid matcha drinker and lover of sunflowers.

Karen, affectionately known as Kae, was adopted from a Kenyan orphanage as a baby and grew up between Kenya and the USA, crediting the fullness of her work to the expansiveness of her living. Her idea of a perfect day contains variations, but it always includes time on a football pitch and cuddles with her dog, Utley.

Going Unarmed Into the Wail, published by We Are Holding This, is her first chapbook.
